Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina has pledged to return to her country and ensure justice for her party workers facing alleged persecution under the current interim government. Speaking virtually to Awami League members, Hasina declared, “Don’t worry. I am coming,” igniting fresh hope among her supporters.

After the Awami League's government fell in August 2024, Hasina left Bangladesh and has since been residing in India. Despite her absence, she has remained politically active through regular virtual interactions with her party. The Bangladesh government has formally requested her extradition from India, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response is awaited.
Virtual Rally to Reignite Party Spirit
Monday evening’s digital gathering, aired live on the Awami League's social media pages, saw Hasina addressing concerns from grassroots members. Several party workers shared emotional testimonies, alleging harassment and intimidation by current authorities.
Listening intently, Hasina vowed to investigate these allegations thoroughly upon her return. “That is why Allah has kept me alive. I will return and bring justice,” she said.
Mohammad Nazrul Islam, president of the All European Awami League, was also present and declared, “Justice will happen one day. That day is not far away.”
Hasina Slams Interim Government, Targets Muhammad Yunus
During her hour-long address, Hasina was sharply critical of the interim administration, especially Muhammad Yunus, who now serves as its chief advisor. She accused him of exploiting power and fostering political vengeance.
“We never resorted to such treatment of our opposition. But Yunus is doing all of this to solidify control,” she said, referring to the treatment of Awami League members and their families.
Calling Yunus a “usurer” and “anti-human,” Hasina emphasized the need for accountability. “Those behind this oppression must face trial. To the families of martyrs—I ask for your patience. We will seek justice,” she said.
A Nation Watching
As Bangladesh continues to navigate political uncertainty, Hasina’s virtual presence is keeping the Awami League’s morale intact. While the question of her return remains entangled in legal and diplomatic complexities, her message was clear: she intends to fight back, not from exile, but on Bangladeshi soil.
